Visa wants a bigger slice of commercial payments

..and so does Mastercard. Can they get it?

Hey!

I expect the "new flows" to be a key focus at the upcoming Visa Investor Day. Visa sees a $200 trillion opportunity in payment flows that go beyond “consumer-to-business” payments. Think commercial cards, cross-border B2B payments, and business-to-consumer payouts. These new flows are supposed to fuel growth once every consumer on Earth has a card.

Mastercard is more modest with the estimates, but agrees that the opportunity is there. I decided to research these new flows and what Visa and Mastercard do to capture them. Capturing some of these flows seems obvious, capturing others does not seem straightforward at all. I wouldn’t bet against Visa, but they certainly need the tools, a partner network, and strong incentives for everyone involved.

Below is the summary of what I have found so far.
